Novemeber 15, 2012 meeting
Greetings,
The RACK Club meeting will be this Thursday, November 14th from 7:00PM to 9:00PM at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Merchants Drive. Our guest speaker this month will be David Bolt, Founder of Sustainable Future, LLC. His presentation will be about solar power and how to create a sustainable future. David’s personal goal is to help home and business owners towards Net Zero Energy buildings, one that creates as much energy as it uses over the course of a year. Since late 2003, David started looking full time at ways to live in harmony with the Earth and at ways to help others accomplish their environmental goals as well. From countless books, lectures, and conversations David is convinced that by making simple everyday choices, we can create a sustainable future. This will be an interesting an informative presentation that you don’t want to miss.
The year is almost over and will soon be time to renew your membership. You don’t have to wait - We are currently taking renewal applications. You can do this online via http://w4bbb.org/applic-C.pdf. Payment can be mailed in or Paypal via our website. You may also just print out the application and just bring it to the next meeting along with your payment.
And finally as a reminder, the RACK Christmas party will be on Saturday, December 1st at 2:00 PM at Puelo’s Grill, in North Knoxville. Address is 110 Cedar Lane, Knoxville, TN 37912. The Christmas Party will take the place of our regular scheduled December meeting. Therefore there will not be a Thursday meeting in the month of December. I hope to see you at the next meeting.

October 2012 Meeting
Hello Fellow Amateurs,
We have been showing and using the CommVan of late. We displayed at the VOAD Fair, the following week at the TenTec hamfest ant then last Saturday, we had a communications net assisting the Cystic Fibrosis Bike Ride. This club project is in full swing and I want to appeal to all members to participate by donating some of the needed equipment for our van. If you want to help but don’t have any items to donate, cash is always a needed item. I want to thank all that have helped to this point and hope the excitement and enthusiasm will continue. Just a reminder, we can give you a letter for your donation which may qualify you for a income tax deduction.
Our October meeting will be a joint venture of the members that attend.
We all have some kind of project in the works, so we are going to bring them and have a show n tell night. This can also mean bringing a project that you are having trouble with or just need another set of eyes to look at it to get some suggestions. This will be an education for all of us and an opportunity to share ideas and knowledge with our fellow members.
Our next event will be the Boy Scouts event at the Furrow farm on October 27th, outside of Loudon. There is expected to be about 3000 people attending. KUB, Red Cross, RACK and other organizations will be set up at the farm. We will need volunteers to help with set-up, tear down and there to answer questions from many inquisitive participants. This is an all day event starting very early and should be a great time to show off our hobby and emergency communication capabilities. I want to encourage all members to help out in some way with this and other events that we are having or working on. Thanks for helping, and keep our Military forces in your prayers.
See you at the meeting,
Jim, N4CFB

September Meeting
Hello Fellow Amateurs,
Our September meeting will be on the 20th of the month at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church at 7:00pm. Our guest speaker will be Mr. Charlie Hargis, K4LF. His topic will be a presentation on grid squares and there will also be an interactive “quiz” at the end. This will certainly be informative and fun for all of us.The Comm Van project is in full swing. We will have it at the VOAD fair at Cokesbury UMC on Sept.22. This event will be focused on emergency preparedness from storing food to civil agencies preparing for us. Faith based organizations as well as city, county and other government agencies will be present. It will be something that you will wish you had attended if you don’t.The van will also be at the TenTec hamfest on the 29th at the TenTec factory in Sevierville. It will also be taken to the Boy Scout Jamboree on Oct 27th just outside of Loudon. This will also be attended by some civil agencies to demonstrate emergency readiness. Put these on your calendar to help the club with staffing of our CommVan. As you know, the lightning strike we took at our repeater site was very damaging. This will be a very time consuming task of getting it back up and running. Thanks for being patient till we get it back to it’s usual operating condition. Our fall picnic will be Sunday, September 23 at Melton Hill Park. This location is in West Knox County on the lake. Talk-in on the club repeaters. The club will provide the grilled burgers ,dogs and other stuff. Please bring a side or dessert to help our with our fun. Thanks for your time, keep our military troops in your prayers.
See you at the meeting,
